Remote workers examining an application to move to Portugal.
First identify the exact application route and the authority handling it. Ask for its current insurance checklist; do not copy requirements from a different visa or residence process.
Start with the right procedure
AIMA publishes information on residence permits for remote professional activity. That is a different stage from applying for an entry visa. For the visa application, obtain the insurance requirements from the consulate handling your case.
Prepare a document check
Ask the consulate responsible for your application to confirm the current insurance requirements. Use these questions to check the documents before buying a policy:
- Which insurance documents are required for the exact application?
- What duration, territory and benefits must those documents show?
- Do the instructions distinguish a temporary stay from a residence route?
- How should changes to planned travel dates be documented?
Confirm contractual eligibility
Ask the insurer to confirm whether your residence, purchase date and intended activity are accepted. Keep its written response with the policy wording. A label such as “digital nomad insurance” does not establish administrative acceptance or suitability.
